Personal consecration

1 Corinthians 10:23 Amplified Bible

All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life].

From our previous post on Consecration https://www.lightwithjesus.com/post/consecration we established by God’s grace that it’s to be separate/set apart from things unclean, unholy especially anything that would contaminate one’s relationship with a perfect God.

But it’s not just Sin we might need to come out from.

Apostle Joshua Selman said on consecration; The idea of consecration is not just to come out of Sin; there are many things that are not sinful and evil we might still need to come out from in our walk with God; which is the focus of this post; Personal consecration.

Personal concentration is very much dependent on your walk with God.

See even if it’s as little as in your daily life, what you watch, eat, who you love and associate with; let God guide you. There were instances God told me to go off instagram; stop watching Netflix, Amazon prime; only watch Christian’s movies/content; that was GOD helping me with my mind, spirit and body and leading me to walk a holy life.

Now it didn’t mean these things were bad or a sin, not at all; but for me personally based on my walk with God they were weights I needed to put aside to BE; for my life of transformation and renewing of my mind.

And again; see it might just be for a season; God might give you specific instruction to abstain from certain things; might be for a season or forever; that’s why we need to discern Gods leading over our life; per season per time.

The Bible also says that Beware of Little Foxes that spoil the vine.

Song of Songs‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

”Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.“

In relational terms, little foxes refer to the “little sins” that threaten to plunder relationships of their potential bounty.

What are you indulging in that seems innocent? Your thoughts, books you read, music you listen to, content you take in……? Don’t water the root/seed of things that can lead to the fruit/plant of sin.

Look at in Joshua 7, the Israelites lost the presence of GOD in their midst which led to their downfall because they allowed something unclean to dwell among them.

Don't allow or give room for sin to stay/grow.

Joshua 7 New International Version

7 But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to the devoted things;Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel.

Again, we have been called to be set apart, stand out, be devoted to a lifestyle of holiness and service to Almighty GOD and the solution for Israelites was to consecrate themselves and remove every sin, idols and devote themselves back to GOD.

Remember an idol is anything that has taken the place of God in your life; can be finances, relationships, your looks; possessions… https://www.lightwithjesus.com/post/what-are-we-making-an-idol-of  as long as it standing the way of your love, growth, relationship, service to God.

10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. 12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.

13“Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them.

Sometimes what we might need to get rid of isn’t the sin but weights also that are barriers in our walk with God.

Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”

We need to crucify our flesh, crucify our flesh and feed our spirit, which again emphasizes the point of Personal consecration.

See at first I thought oh my how will I cope; like I deleted all social media apps apart from WhatsApp; no Netflix; and a new season of one of my favorite show was coming out; I was like Abeg oh, pls BABA; but like I mentioned up, trust me; HE GIVES YOU THE STRENGTH, GRACE POWER TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE.

Consecration is to be set apart, but also its devotion to God and to the things of God.

You Abstain but also Devot; Devot yourself to a life of walking in holiness, reading the Bible, praying, obedience to God.

Let GOD work in you to do and will of HIS good pleasure, see what the Bible say; GOD gives us the power to live a life that pleases HIM:

Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”

Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,”

Be consecrated and consistent. Consecration is a walk with the Lord, it’s continuous. Let him give you instruction to BE.

The power of the HOLYSPIRIT is your help in concentration. Behold HIM by the SPIRIT of the LORD, walk in the Spirit and you won’t fulfil the desire of the Flesh.

Prayer

My life is not my own God; I recognise this; because for me to LIVE IS CHRIST; and it’s in every area of my life

So Lord, help me live a holy life pleasing and acceptable until you; Have your way Lord in my life; have your way Lord in every area of my life; guide me Lord, instruct me Lord on how to live a consecrated Life and give me the grace for obedience.

This life of holiness/concentration I know I can’t do on own; Holy Spirit I rely heavily on you on my concentration; help me, strengthen me.

Thank you Lord because everything I have is yours; what you want is what I do, so help me BE and lord help me DO always and forever.

I love you Lord forever and eternity more.
