II Corinthians 6:17-18 NKJV
“Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
“I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.””
See this definition I got from the internet on what the word consecration means:
“the separation of oneself from things that are unclean, especially anything that would contaminate one’s relationship with a perfect God.” Consecration also carries the connotation of sanctification, holiness, or purity.
It means to be set apart, to consecrate oneself to be used by God.
We see the call for consecration throughout the Bible if its in the old or New Testament. So what’s the goal of concentration and how important is it in our Christian walk/life?
Before the Israelites met God at Mount Sinai, HE commanded them to consecrate themselves, they waited to meet God on the third day, but they consecrated themselves while waiting.
Exodus 19:10-11 NKJV
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”
Before the Israelites went into the promise land, to prepare for the move of God in their midst, they had to consecrate themselves.
Joshua 3:5 NIV
Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”
Warren Wiersbe, (Be Delivered) said: “The act of washing their clothes helped the Israelites prepare their hearts and minds to meet with God. Washing and changing clothes in the Old Testament is equivalent of 1 John 1:9 and 2 Corinthians 7:1.”
1 John 1:9 NKJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2 Corinthians 7:1 NKJV
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Now does God still require us to consecrate ourselves? Absolutely yes.
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV calls for us to offer, consecrate our lives to God. So it not only talks about not conforming to the world which is to be separate and set apart but we see it also calls us to a life of Devotion and service to God.
So we see Consecration isn’t just focused on abstaining from but also Devotion to.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Consecration is a process of being set apart to be made Holy (as the Lord is Holy) through sanctification within an intimate relationship with the Lord.
God requires us to be Holy, why? Because the God we serve is Holy.
Leviticus 19:2 NKJV
““Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
I Peter 1:15-16 NKJV
“but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.””
Leviticus 20:7-8 NKJV
“Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. And you shall keep My statutes, and perform them: I am the Lord who sanctifies you.”
God is still very much telling us also to Consecrate ourselves. The same way He told the Israelites He brought them out of Egypt to serve God; we also have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus unto a life of consecration.
II Corinthians 6:14-16 NKJV
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.””
II Corinthians 6:17-18 NKJV
“Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.””
And Consecration is not just to come out of sin.
Apostle Joshua Selman said on consecration; The idea of consecration is not just to come out of Sin; there are many things that are not sinful and evil we might still need to come out from in our walk with God; which brings me to my next point which will be addressed in another post; Personal consecration.
I talk about Personal Consecration here https://www.lightwithjesus.com/post/personal-consecration please continue this reading by visiting the link and be blessed, enlightened in Jesus name🙏
